Facing state budget cuts and threats to federal funding by President Donald Trump, the University of California announced an indefinite systemwide hiring freeze Wednesday.

The decision came from the UC Board of Regents, who are currently gathered at UCLA in their first meeting since the federal government launched several investigations into the university system

The University of California will no longer require diversity statements for faculty applicants, the system’s provost, Katherine Newman, said in a letter Wednesday to campus provosts.
