The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has announced that they have offered the Groundhog Club President a yearly sweet treat to make their weather prediction in exchange for the retirement of Punxsutawney Phil.

In lieu of Punxsutawney Phil forecasting the weather on Groundhog Day, the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is offering to send a “weather reveal” vegan cake this year.

In the past 10 years, Buckeye Chuck still reins as the more accurate weather-predicting groundhog with 40% of his predictions being true. Punxsutawney Phil only saw about 30% of his predictions come to fruition.

In a Tuesday letter addressed to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club’s president Tom Dunkel, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk is offering a "weather reveal" vegan cake each Groundhog Day in order to "replace [the] exploited groundhog.
