Breakdancers are known for their gravity-defying moves, but some may pay a hidden price. After nearly two decades of spinning on his head, a Danish breakdancer in his early 30s noticed something strange: a painful bump,

"Despite 'headspin hole' being known within the breakdancing community, it is scarcely documented in the medical literature," the doctors noted in a paper published Thursday (Oct. 10) in the journal BMJ Case Reports. Based on their results, treating these bumps on the head with surgery "appears to be a successful intervention," the physicians said.

Specifically, breakers appear to run the risk of “headspin hole” or “breakdance bulge,” a protruding lump on the scalp formed by too many headspins on the floor, researchers say in the journal BMJ Case Reports.
