During today’s Direct presentation, Nintendo spent a lot of time talking about the Switch 2’s new built-in GameChat functionality that will give players a way to share their screens during group video calls. But the company also announced that it’s rolling out an update for the Switch family of systems’ companion smartphone app.

The Nintendo Direct 2025 presentation Wednesday gave us plenty of new details on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console, along with tons of new info around new games we can expect. From an exciting new open-world Mario Kart to a Switch-exclusive FromSoftware game called The Duskbloods,

Kawamoto adds to that: "Simply put, those systems were compatible because Nintendo 3DS contained Nintendo DS hardware, and Wii U contained Wii hardware. However, Switch 2 doesn't contain any Switch hardware."
