Over 4,000 cars have been impounded since a collaborative state and city task force began cracking down on ghost license plates on New York City roadways last year. Since March 11, more than 70 toll enforcement operations have been held in the city with 902 people being arrested and more than 39,

The new rules target drivers who intentionally obscure plates in an attempt to evade tolls, penalties and law enforcement.

In order to crack down on cars dodging New York City’s tolls and other traffic enforcement like speed cameras, The Big Apple will launch a new effort on April 16th, slapping drivers with a $50 fine for obscured license plates.
