Owners of a Los Angeles scrap metal recycling facility which was the site of an explosion near a school in Watts last year were jailed after prosecutors told a judge Thursday that they violated conditional terms of their release.

A long-sought victory for residents in Watts as the owners of a metal salvage and recycling yard face felony charges of knowingly disposing hazardous waste at a site next to a school with no permit.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge ordered Matthew Weisenberg, co-owner of S&W Atlas Iron and Metal Corp., to remain jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.
