Luckily, Hakko tips just slip on the heating element, so no threading operations were needed. [Sean] made insert tips for multiple sized inserts, and the results speak for themselves.

The Hakko FX-888DX may be worth the upgrade ... with no padding or ergonomic features, and the included tip—a small chisel shape—was a bit too large for the Larson Scanner Kit.
