Eli Lilly launched its blockbuster diabetes and weight-loss drug Mounjaro in India on Thursday, beating rival Novo Nordisk for a much-awaited entry into the world's most populous country grappling with increasing rates of obesity and diabetes.

US pharma giant Eli Lilly's Mounjaro can prove crucial in treatment of obesity & type 2 diabetes. Launched in the US in 2022, it has since become a global blockbuster.

In India, around 101 million people suffer from diabetes. More than half of these patients do not have their blood sugar under control. At the same time, obesity is affecting around 100 million people.

US pharma giant Eli Lilly has ventured into India with an anti-obesity and diabetes drug called Mounjaro. This development comes after the drug’s approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
