Acme Smoked Fish Corp. has issued a voluntary recall for packages of smoked salmon sold under Costco’s Kirkland brand because of potential contamination with the listeria bacteria, the latest in a series of listeria recalls that has touched meat products and frozen breakfast foods.

Costco is recalling smoked salmon products over possible listeria contamination. Listeria is a bacteria that contaminates foods and can cause listeriosis, which is the third-leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the US. Listeria can spread in food processing facilities, according to the US Center for Disease Controls and Prevention.

A listeria outbreak affecting about 10million pounds of meat has expanded and caused wholesale retailer Costco to recall another product from its shelves. Costco is recalling salmon over concerns of possible listeria contamination.
