Uses and Side Effects of SuppositoriesSuppositories are solid medications that are inserted into the body. Different types of suppositories can be inserted into the rectum, vagina, or urethra (the tube where urine leaves your body).
<6yrs: individualize. 6–11yrs: ½ supp rectally once daily. Retain for 15–20 minutes. Results usually within 15 minutes to 1 hour; reevaluate if ineffective.
The pharmacokinetics of promethazine administered in oral syrup and rectal suppositories were highly variable, but, in general, the suppositories produced a lower C max and later t max than the syrup.
