British author David Lodge has died at age 89. Lodge was twice shortlisted for the country’s leading literary prize.

His 15 well-plotted novels teemed with romance and strange coincidence. An erudite literary critic with an ear for language, he also wrote a raft of nonfiction books.

British novelist David Lodge, who was shortlisted for the Booker Prize twice, has died at the age of 89, his publisher said on Friday.

Lodge gently satirized academia, religion and even his own loss of hearing in such narratives as the Booker Prize finalists “Small World” and “Nice Work."

British author David Lodge was best known for his campus trilogy set in the fictitious university of Rummidge. He was also twice shortlisted for one of Britain's most prestigious literary award, the Booker Prize.
