Sonic the Hedgehog fans declared war against the new Lion King prequel Mufasa when it was revealed that the blue blur’s third live-action movie and Disney’s latest photorealistic CGI venture would both release in theaters on the same day.

The video game adaptation scored the second-best December openings ever for a PG-rated pic as Disney's follow-up to 2019's 'The Lion King' came in notably behind expectations.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is off to a fast start at the domestic box office, pulling in $62 million during its opening weekend. That’s significantly more than Mufasa: The Lion King managed — Disney’s live action prologue made $35 million during the same time period.
