The NBA and FIBA are exploring the possibility of launching a new European professional basketball league, NBA commissioner Adam Silver and FIBA secretary general Andreas Zagklis said at a press conference Thursday.

Silver believes "now is the time" given the research the NBA has performed with fans, advertising agencies and other clubs in Europe. The NBA’s massive reach and financial backing is appealing to many, with basketball only trailing soccer as far as worldwide popularity.

The NBA and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), global basketball’s governing body, are in talks with European soccer clubs about a potential new hoops league on the continent.

It took posting a ridiculous 50 point game in the G League for Gonzaga basketball icon Drew Timme to finally get an NBA opportunity, but the Brooklyn Nets have reportedly signed the big man to a two-year deal according to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype.
