Local and federal officials say the new law will will help make Birmingham safer, but advocates say it will take more than a state ban, policing and prosecution to solve Alabama’s homicide problem.

The bill’s enactment follows ongoing advocacy to ban Glock Switches by the Big 10 Mayors. In February, the Mayors joined Gov. Ivey and legislative leadership to announce the “Safer Alabama” package of legislation, which included this Glock Switch ban.
